Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. Her father was a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny girl, requiring her mother to help support her family through work as waitress or cleaning lady. Ruth went to school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. She quit school in just two years in order to study acting. The route she took was not without obstacles. When she was in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed for was not available. Then in NYC, she worked in a bar as the check-in lady before resigning before moving to Boston. There she was able to earn a living as an usherette by during the day and then at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first acting job. She received a master's certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
